The blood donor room at Emerson Hospital reports a need for types A POS, O POS and O NEG this week and next, according to Linda Dolan, blood donor recruiter.
All healthy people can donate as long as they weigh 110 lbs. or more and are feeling well. Donations take normally 45 minutes. Donations can be scheduled ahead of time. Parking is free for donors in the lot.
The donor room is on the first floor of the John Cuming building, 133 Old Road to Nine Acre Corner. Visit www.emersonhospital.org for more information.
Call the direct line at the donor room: 978 287 3778 to schedule a donation of a pint of live-saving blood. All donors are screened via a written form and a nurse before blood is drawn. Blood pressure, type, temperature and pulse are checked.
After the donation, drawn in a reclining chair, donors are given juice and snacks and asked to relax for a short time.
Hours are Monday: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesday: 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Thursday: 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The donor room will also be open on the following Fridays: July 23, Aug. 20 and Sept. 24 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center will be closed on July 1 and July 5.
