Update: Rick Loughlin Philanthropy; Blue Ribbon Baby

Rick Loughlin philanthropy is honored; a 5½-year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

First, Happy Birthday to my college roommate Claudia Horton Gorski. Claudia does not live in Concord, but she is a wonderful person who visits Concord sometimes, and she is an  avid reader of my About Town columns. Does anything say 'true friend' more than that? I didn't think so either. Happy Birthday my friend!

Little Wanderers Honor Coldwell Banker Executive

Congratulations to Concordian Rick Loughlin, president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage New England.

Rick was the honored guest at the Home for Little Wanderers’ 25th annual fundraiser, 2011 Voices & Visions Dinner, last month. The Home for Little Wanderers recognized Rick for his outstanding corporate citizenship and support of community-based charities throughout New England. Since its inception, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Cares has donated more than $3 million dollars to hundreds of non-profit organizations, including the Home for Little Wanderers. The dinner in May netted more than $1 million for the Home for Little Wanderers. Here is a video of Rick gracefully and humbly accepting his well-deserved award. It is just five minutes, but it is excellent and worth watching. Way to go, Rick!

Lady Geoghegan, a 5½-year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, is racking up awards on the beauty pageant circuit. This past weekend, Lady traveled to the King Cavalier Spaniel Club’s annual Northeast Specialty Show in Danbury, Conn., driven by her housemate and breeder, Joan Geoghegan.

It’s hard to believe that this past January, just five months ago, Lady delivered four of the cutest puppies ever. “It’s the comeback kid story,” said Joan, a Concord resident, who breeds and has shown King Cavalier Spaniels for the past 20 years. “Back in January, a video of Lady and her four little puppies was a big hit on the Concord Patch.” (Click to see the video of Lady nursing her pups.)

“Lady is good at other things too, though,” Joan said. “This past weekend, Lady charmed Australian judge Marilyn Madigan into giving her the blue ribbon in the tricolor bitch class. Not bad for a five-and-one-half-year old girl, who had to compete against much younger, ahem, bitches.”

Here's Lady on the left, with Maisey in the center, who has left Concord and the limelight of pageantry for a fulfilling career in retail. Maisey is the official greeter at Casual Interiors in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Stop in and say hello next time you’re up there.

Luna, standing in the rear, is the next contender from Joan's group of Licketysplit Cavaliers. Luna, 2, is gunning for a berth at the Club Nationals in California this fall. If her ears grow long enough for competition, Joan will buy Luna a plane ticket and fly her out to the West Coast for the chance to compete. (Of course, if her ears grow really long, she can probably fly herself to California, and Joan will only need to purchase a ticket for herself.)
