Concord's Kristin Hedstrom Out of the Rowing for Olympic Gold

The Concord native came up less than half a second short in the semifinals and was eliminated from medal contention earlier this week in London.

 

They survived the first heat and rocked out the repechage, but Concord native Kristin Hedstrom and rowing partner Julie Nichols finished seventh in Thursday’s semifinals, falling just short a spot in the finals and a shot at gold in the 2012 Olympics.

Hedstrom, l, was competing in the lightweight women’s double sculls.

She and Nichols placed third in their first heat, and then earned a spot in the semifinals by wining the repechage on Tuesday, July 31. And then in the semifinals on Aug. 2, they finished seventh and were eliminated from medal contention, their time of 7.12:61 less than half a second slower than the sixth place team.

While medaling is no longer a possibility, the Olympic journey is not over for Hedstrom; she and Nichols will compete again tomorrow, Aug. 4, in a heat to determin the 7th to 12th place finishers.
