Concord Voters Undeterred by Heat

Looks like a strong local turnout for the June 25 special US Senate election.

Democracy is beating the heat in Concord.

According to Town Clerk Anita Tekle, nearly one-fourth of Concord's registered voters had cast ballots by 2:30 p.m. today, June 25, as the commonwealth elects its next US Senator.

Voter turnout has been steady, despite the heat, as residents turn out to support Democrat Ed Markey or Republican Gabriel Gomez ... or Richard Heos of the Twelve Visions party.

The total of 24 percent included several hundred absentee ballots turned in, which had been counted earlier in the day, Tekle said.

With the polls open until 8 p.m. tonight, Tekle expects that total to climb into at least the low 30s. Another count will be taken at 5 p.m.

While voters appear undeterred by the heat, it appears temperatures climbing up toward 90 make for fewer sign-holding supporters out around town.
