Fenn Teams Eye a Strong Winter Finish
The week in sports at Fenn School.
The following announcement comes from Brenda Dupont on behalf of Fenn School athletics.
Nearing the end of the winter sports season, Fenn teams are looking to finish strong. In varsity basketball, Fenn ran out to a quick 42-12 at halftime on Thursday, Feb. 16 over Beaver Country Day and romped to a 70-28 victory. Austin Dorsey (Concord) sparked the effort with a 20-point game.
Carter Jones (Concord) contributed 12 points, while Austin Hoey (Concord) and Bryce Dion (Carlisle) each chipped in 10. The win moved Fenn's record to 7-6, with the team's final game of the season at Lawrence Academy on Friday.
In varsity hockey, Will Robertson (Acton) pushed Fenn out to a 1-0 lead in the first period Wednesday, Feb. 15 against Roxbury Latin, but Fenn couldn't hold on. The 2-1 loss snapped Fenn's three-game win streak.
Fenn bounced back on Friday against Rivers, as Gavin Kennedy (Concord) got Fenn on the board early, capitalizing on a scramble in front of the net. Fenn went up 2-0 less than a minute into the second, then opened the floodgates for a 5-0 advantage. Rivers broke Leo Saraceno's (Acton) shutout with less than a minute to go in the game to make it a 5-1 final.
"Our effort was full and consistent and we had good jump in our legs. Our transition game and forecheck was strong, and we moved the puck well," said Coach Derek Boonisar. "Matt Killian (Concord) and Cory Tibbetts (Acton) played well defensively and our first line controlled the play up front."
Fenn's varsity hockey record is 14-4 with Fenn scheduled to wrap up the season on Friday as the team hosts Dexter.
