LETTER: Bergen and Rainey 'Deserve a Seat' on Concord School Committee
Elsinore Street resident Michael Lucontoni writes that Lisa Bergen and Cynthia Rainey are 'extraordinary, dedicated hard working individuals who deserve a seat on our School Committee.'
To the Editor,
I recently heard Lisa Bergen and Cynthia Rainey speak at a meet-an-greet and came away very much moved by their vision, intellect and goals for our schools!
Lisa and Cynthia are extraordinarily committed to both our children and community. I am impressed with the number of school committee meetings, as well as building committee, Board of Selectman, FinComm meetings they have attended in the last year, long before either Lisa and Cynthia had any intention of running for School Committee. This shows a willingness, desire and ability to be fully engaged and informed.
Their ability to understand all sides of an issue and listen objectively, paired with their integrity, will serve our schools well.
Lisa demonstrated these skills as chair of the CTC and member of the TAC committee, both of which evaluated options and costs for school transportation. The facts were fully compiled under Lisa’s leadership and an enormous report was delivered to the community. Lisa showed that she successfully works with individuals on different sides of an issue, demonstrating her open and fair-mindedness.
Cynthia has demonstrated her commitment to excellence in our schools by investigating various school policies, in particular the five-year plan for technology for the high school given her technology expertise. She recognizes the importance of a robust and detailed vision and plan. Cynthia found the simple two-page vision in place for Concord needs an intense “reboot” when compared with, for instance, the 60-page document for Westborough, and this is a place where her experience and expertise will be invaluable.
I feel fortunate that Concord has Lisa and Cynthia being willing to serve. They are both extraordinary, dedicated hard working individuals who deserve a seat on our School Committee.
