LETTER: Civis - and the LWV -- Says to Attend Annual Town Meeting

Town Meeting starts next Monday, April 22.

To the Editor,

The League of Women Voters of Concord-Carlisle encourages active and informed participation of citizens in government. We urge all Concord voters who can arrange their schedules to attend next week’s sessions of the Concord Annual Town Meeting to do so. Voters who attend Town Meeting will participate in discussion and voting on many financial, zoning and other policy matters that affect our community. The goldenrod-colored Finance Committee Report, which residents received recently by mail (and which is also on the Town’s website), is important reading, and voters should bring it with them to Town Meeting

Town Meeting is held at the Concord-Carlisle Regional High School, 500 Walden St. The first night of Town Meeting begins at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 22, with adjourned sessions, as needed, continuing through Thursday, the 25, and Monday and Tuesday of the following week. Adjournment time varies from evening to evening; the practice is not to begin any new matter after 10 p.m.

Due to construction at the high school site, parking there will be limited, so share a ride if you can. If more parking is needed, cars will be directed to the Alcott School, and shuttle service will be provided to the High School. The League encourages voters to allow plenty of time for parking, checking in with the Town Clerk’s staff and picking up handouts available on the tables outside the meeting hall each evening.

Child care at the High School for children 2-1/2 and older may be reserved for a modest charge by calling 978-369-6460 in advance. Seniors may reserve transportation by calling 978-318-3020 in advance.

I look forward to participating in Town Meeting with my fellow Concord citizens starting April 22.

Sincerely,

Erin Pastuszenski, Voter Service Director
