New Grads, Pony Games, and a Baby Auction

Congratulations to the CCHS Class of 2012; check out the Decibels Foundation’s Auction.

Hey, guess what’s happening this weekend?? It’s graduation over at Concord Carlisle High School! Yes, a freshly minted batch of graduates will take their first steps toward their new independent lives, lives where mom and dad aren’t making all the decisions. Decisions like what to make for dinner and what kind of career to have. Maybe when they figure out how to make those decisions for themselves, they’ll make them for me; I could use some help with those dinner decisions especially. Ah, they’re headed off to their next big adventure, which is a very big deal, and I wish them loads of luck!

Meanwhile, last weekend, three local girls were up at Topsfield Fairgrounds, competing in the Central New England Region’s Pony Club Games Rally. Isabella Caruso (CCHS Junior), Kylie Thomas (CCHS Sophomore) and Olivia Ross (CMS seventh grader) once again jumped on feisty ponies and rode like maniacs, competing for the chance to go to Pony Club Championships this summer. If you recall, they did the same thing last year, and even though they performed amazingly, they didn’t go to Championships because, well, they don’t actually own their ponies. And those ponies spend their summer giving camp kids rides, so they don’t have time to be traipsing around the country, competing in national competitions and such.

But this year the girls worked things out ahead of time with the barn that actually does own the ponies, and they all earned the opportunity to take their ponies to Championships in Virginia, something they are very excited about. Mostly because it means they get to spend more time on horses, something they all love to do. I’m very proud of the three of them, and I have no doubt they will do their barn proud.

Auction for Babies

Ok, I admit that’s a bit misleading, you’re not actually bidding ON babies. But the proceeds from Decibels Foundation’s 10th Anniversary auction will go to support the new Baby Group at the Minute Man Arc Early Intervention Program for Children with Hearing Loss. Thanks to the Classy Award they earned last fall, Decibels was able to create a brand new baby group, allowing them to ensure that no family would get turned away from their unique local program. Now they need money to keep that program going, and you can help by going to their Bidding for Good website here, and bidding on the truly awesome prizes they have there. Prizes like a Red Sox package, or two nights in Bermuda. Believe me, if you’re looking for a great getaway, Decibels has some pretty interesting opportunities, so check it out. You’ll be helping out a great cause.

Well, kids, that’s all I’ve got for this week; check out Maureen’s column next Tuesday, and meanwhile, enjoy the weekend!
