Concord has a lot of hidden gems, but not all of them want to stay hidden.

This weekend, nearly 30 businesses and organizations opened their doors and encouraged residents to come Discover West Concord.

The Saturday event took place along Commonwealth Avenue and Beharrell Street, with shops of all kinds offering special demonstrations, sales, and information on their individual establishments. Participating storefronts could be identified by the colorful balloons flying outside of each one.

Visitors to the Discover West Concord event received a passport mapping out the neighborhood. At each stop, visitors would collect stamps signifying the number of places they explored. Once 10 stamps had been collected, the passports became entries into a raffle, the prizes for which came from all the participating businesses.

Cindy McCullough of 1 on 1 Self Indulgence Spa and Fitness helped organize the event. She said the idea was to remind folks in town just what West Concord has to offer, calling the Beharrell Street area a "mini Soho."

"You really can explore here for an entire day," McCullough said. "In a small square footage of the town, we've packed in a lot."

The business' and organizations' willingness and enthusiasm for participating in the event was encouraging, McCullough added.

"It was just a great outpouring of support," she said.

A good number of them, McCullough continued, "are already on the bandwagon for next year. And that's exciting."

Participating businesses and organizations included: 1 on 1 Self Indulgence Spa and Fitness, Charles Mayer Photography, Concord Family Chiropractic, Concord Flower Shop, Concord Firefly, Dabblers Hobbies and Cafe, Debra's Natural Gourmet, Erin Jade Yoga, Hammersmith Studios, Laura Robbins Interiors, Merlin's Silver Star Studio, Nashoba Brook Bakery, noa jewelry, fine handcrafts and gifts, Pedal and Pose Fitness Studio, Prana Raw-Juice Fest, Reasons to be Cheerful, Reflections, Slowpokes Barbecue, The Potting Shed, The Women's Well, To Die For Dips and Spreads, West Concord 5 and 10, West Concord Wine and Liquors, Yoga and Nia For Life, Citizens Bank, Mom.com, and Wah Lum Kung Fu.

I discovered that West Concord is an awesome place to own a business! I have really enjoyed the warm welcome from neighboring businesses as well as the community since I moved Concord Flower Shop to the village. Everyone was in a great mood on Saturday and it was a fun day for the whole family!
