Town Manager: Junction Park Plans Rehab; Fenn Science Center Approved
Updates on various town projects.
Town Manager Chris Whelan provided updates on several town projects in his most recent public report, including plans to rehabilitate Junction Park.
Concord Public Works, Whelan said, is currently “in the process of finalizing the plan set, bid documents and construction specifications for the internal design project.” Plans call for added landscaping at the West Concord park, as well as amenities like drinking fountains and chess tables.
Whelan detailed that construction is due to begin in the spring with “Low Impact Development techniques and sustainable engineering practices with the replacement of the existing brick park surface with a porous paver system and installation of a new bioretention area to provide increased stromwater infiltration.”
Whelan reported that officials are looking to extend the Battle Road Trail with a trail that leads into Bedford. The path would lead from Bedford through Gaining Ground conservation land to Virginia Road.
A New Lumber Shed
A year after a 2011 snowstorm districted the town’s lumber shed, the Building Division has signed off on the new shed at 126 Lowell Road. A portion of the shed, Whelan said, is within the Main Street Historic District.
Library and Science Center Approved for Fenn School
The Planning Board has approved the site plan for the Fenn School’s proposed library and science center.
