An “emergency situation in the attic” has prompted the Building Inspections and Health offices to move downstairs at 141 Keyes Road for a few days. The offices were scheduled to move down from the second floor to the first-floor meeting room yesterday, May 8 and are expected to remain there until next Monday, May 13. According to the latest Town Manager’s report posted online, a “squirrel infestation has resulted in the need to remove insulation and ceiling tiles” and there will be no access to the second floor at 141 Keyes Road until May 13, assuming cleanup activities stay on schedule. …
Concord's annual Town Meeting opens at 7 p.m. next Monday, April 22, at Concord-Carlisle High School. For the uninitiated, Town Meeting is the municipality's major legislative body, making decisions about budgets, bylaws, land use and, in these parts, bottled water bans. The warrant essentially breaks down the meeting's business -- in both legalese and layman's terms. Need a refresher on the warrant? Click on the PDF posted to your right.  Other meeting protocols and information are posted below, courtesy of the town website. PARKING: Town Meeting attendees should enter the high school …
The special state primary will be held on Tuesday, April 30, which means the deadline to register to vote in the special is this Wednesday, April 10. For those who are currently unregistered and want to vote in the primary, mail-in voter registration affidavit forms are available at the Town Clerk’s Office and online at http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleifv/howreg.htm. Voter registration deadline is always 20 days prior to local, state and national elections. Residents already registered to vote in Concord do not need to re-register. New residents can verify registration status by …

Drivers who are considering a switch to electric vehicles or current vehicle owners looking for a place nearby to charge their rides have a couple of places to find their outlet. According to the crowd-sourced website carstations.com, the closest charging stations are in the municipal lot at 4 Grant St. in Lexington, at the Ninety-Nine Restaurant in Billerica and the Acton Toyota of Little.  Carstations allows users to upload new car charging locations to a Google map and (when applicable) provides details on the station. According to the site's About section, "this website is designed to …
Looks like the Concord Residents for Consumer Choice group has a new website and branding campaign pushing for the repeal of Concord’s revolutionary bottle-banning bylaw. According to members of the group and a sentence at the bottom of website's homepage, FreeTheWater.org “is supported by Concord Residents for Consumer Choice, a local coalition of concerned citizens.” The original group, Concord Residents for Consumer Choice, is seeking to repeal a bylaw prohibiting the sale of non-sparking, unflavored drinking water in single-serve PET bottles of 1 liter or less. The bylaw was approved by…
As February vacation winds down and we head into a weekend wherein forecasts are calling for up to another foot of snow, it seems like an appropriate time to peek ahead at when the 2012-2013 school year might end.    According to the Concord Schools most recently updated calendar, published Monday, Feb. 11, the tentative final day of school will be Thursday, June 20. That’s a half-day for students K-8, according to the Concord Public Schools calendar, and a professional development day will be held Friday, June 21, for CPS and Concord-Carlisle High School.   Planned makeup days, if needed, …
You've probably heard occasional references to this winter storm as "Nemo." While it makes for some good jokes about that cute little orange fish, Nemo is not the brainchild of the Disney Corporation, but rather, a pre-determined name The Weather Channel gave to this latest storm. If you missed it: The Weather Channel in November announced it would name "noteworthy winter storms" in the 2012-2013 winter season. Sure, snowstorms have been informally named after the fact (remember Snowtober?) This is the first season, however, that The Weather Channel is naming them as it does hurricanes and …
Neighbors to the Starmet/NMI in West Concord could be hearing chainsaws and heavy equipment this week as the contractor tasked with demolishing the superfund site will begin some outdoor activities. That’s according to a notice posted to the town website, which explained the outdoor activities “will include clearing trees near the buildings and some minor earthwork to prepare staging areas for trucks and to install a truck scale.” Site work and demolition of the buildings 2229 Main St. comes more than a decade after the Starmet/NMI site was added to the Superfund National Priorities List in…
