Recovering the American Oystercatcher: A Story of Collaboration and Success

A decade ago, there were only 11,000 American Oystercatchers in the United States. Facing pervasive threats from habitat loss, introduced predators and climate change, the species was on the way to becoming endangered. In response to this challenge, Manomet brought together partners in coastal conservation from Texas to Maine in a collaborative and ambitious effort to reverse the decline of this unique shorebird. The result has been nothing short of remarkable; five straight years of successful nesting and a thriving partnership that continues to grow and share a common goal.

The Manomet Center has been developing cooperative and scientific solutions to complex environmental challenges for more than 40 years. Manomet scientists conduct their work from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to Tierra del Fuego at the southern tip of Chile.

Light refreshments will be offered during the presentation.
