The St. John Flute Choir under the direction of Barbara Weiblen presents a prelude recital on All Saints Sunday, November 4 at 5 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street in Concord.  The St. John Flute Choir is a chamber ensemble of flute musicians from Acton, Bolton, Carlisle, Concord, Hudson, Sudbury, and Wayland who perform on traditional flutes and other instruments in the flute family including the piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute.

The recital marks the Flute Choir's tenth anniversary. St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sudbury supports the choir which provides a regular musical contribution to the worship service and special concerts in the church. The Flute Choir also performs in other area churches and recital venues. It has presented concert recitals in Sudbury and Worcester, and performed in Mechanics Hall at the “Festival of Thanksgiving” sponsored by the Mark Thallander Foundation. The St. John Flute Choir received a gold medal certificate for their performance at the Greater Boston Flute Association’s Solo and Ensemble Day in 2006. In July 2012, Director Barbara Weiblen toured Germany, Austria and Slovakia with the New England Conservatory Summer Metropolitan Flute Orchestra.

The unusual sonority of the flute choir will delight those who hear the works arranged for Flute Choir in the program. Among them, J. S. Bach's "Prelude & Fugue in e minor"; a movement from Mozart’s "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik"; Giovanni Gabrieli’s "Jam non dicam"; Benjamin Godard’s "Au Matin"; Max Rairigh’s "Sursum corda"; an arrangement of "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent" written expressly for the Flute Choir by Jeff Fuhrer; and with the organ, Nora Kile’s arrangement of J. Brahms’ "How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place."

This prelude recital leads into the Choral Evensong sung by Trinity’s Parish Choir directed by organist Robert Barney.  The Parish Choir will sing music by Hubert Parry and Herbert Brewer, late 19th to early 20th century composers associated with Gloucester, England.
