Baby Born on Unique Date of 11/12/13 at Emerson Hospital

On the eve of her due date, Alicia Villa of Acton began reading in her week-to-week pregnancy guide about how labors that don’t start on their own must sometimes be induced.

Then her water broke.

Alicia arrived at Emerson Hospital with her husband, Keith Villa, around 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 11. At 7:08 a.m. on Nov. 12, they welcomed their first child, Keith Joseph Villa Jr., at 7 pounds, 4½ ounces and 20 inches long. The baby was delivered by Christina Thomas, MD of Concord OB/GYN.

Keith said they’re excited about the baby’s birth date because of the uniqueness of 11/12/13, but also because Nov. 12 is his father’s birthday. In fact, he said, first-time grandfather Peter Villa of Framingham was Keith Jr.’s first visitor.

“It’s a cool birthday,” Keith said, “but it’s even more special that my baby and father have it in common.”

Alicia said that Emerson had been highly recommended by several friends, and her experience supported their praise. She was particularly touched by a nurse who sweetly encouraged her to deliver the baby before her shift ended at 7 a.m. so she could celebrate with them. As it turned out, the nurse only had to stay a few minutes late.

“The doctor and nurses were all easy to talk to, and made me feel so comfortable and relaxed,” Alicia said. “Even the medical assistants who took my vital signs were very caring, asking if we needed anything. It was just a great experience.”

Already recovering at home, Alicia said that Keith Jr. is a happy baby who looks like Keith Sr. did when he was a baby.

“And he’s very punctual,” she added.
