OBITUARY- Herbert Halper

Herbert Halper, 92, of Concord, formerly of Millis and Long Island died Friday, February 7, 2014 at Concord Health Care Center. He was the beloved husband of Josephine “Jo-Ann” (Imperato) DiNardo-Halper and the late Hazel (Gillespie) Halper.

Born in Brockton on March 11, 1921 he was the son of the late Nathan and Eva (Dumanis) Halper. He attended Brockton public schools and graduated from Brockton High School in 1939. He attended Columbia University, Hofstra University and C. W. Post, all in New York.

During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant, stationed in Africa and Italy.

For many years, prior to his retirement, Mr. Halper worked for Service Master Industries, Carlisle School Department, The Potting Shed in West Concord, West Concord Post Office and Emerson Hospital’s Transport Department.

A Concord Resident for twenty-seven years, he was a member of the Concord Lions Club and the American Legion.

In addition to his beloved wife Jo-Ann, he is survived by his children, Elizabeth McFall and her husband Robert of Sun City, AZ and Herbert “Bart” Halper and his wife Mary Ann of Easton, PA., Dr. James DiNardo of Concord, Mary-Jo Gagne and her husband Budd of Chester, NH, Dr. Laurence DiNardo and his wife Betsy of Richmond, VA, Gerard DiNardo of South Riding, VA, his grandchildren, Sarah Gardner and her husband Robert of Laguna Beach, CA, Simon McFall and his wife Bridget of Ogden, UT, Shannon Linsenbigler and her husband Matthew of Bethlehem, PA, Jamie Halper-Brody and her husband Christopher of Bethlehem Township, PA, Jason McHale of Woburn, Gregory McHale of Brookline, NH, Matthew and Alexander DiNardo, both of Richmond, VA and Isabel DiNardo of Concord, his great grandchildren, Kennedy, Eva, Mary Elizabeth, and Robert Gardner and Ava and Abraham McFall and numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Leona Reservitz, Florence Goodfellow, Shirley Chipman, and Joseph Halper.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan Street, Danvers, MA 01923.

Visitation was on Tuesday, February 11th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center.Funeral, Wednesday, February 12th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center at 9 am followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am in Holy Family Parish at St. Bernard's Church, Monument Square, Concord Center.

Burial was in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord where officers of the United States Air Force presented military honors. Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Wednesday in recognition of Mr. Halper's service to his country during World War II.
