Obituary- John J. "Jack" Thornton, Jr.

John J. “Jack” Thornton, Jr., 75, formerly of Acton and Concord, died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Genesis Westford Center in Westford.

Born in Toledo, Ohio on June 4, 1938 he was the son of the late Dr. John J. Thornton and Mary (Duffy) Thornton. He attended Concord public schools.

From 1958 to 1964, he served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Pawcatuck.

For twenty-five years, prior to his retirement in 1988, Mr. Thornton was a Mechanical Engineer for Harrison Environmental Systems in Andover.

An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Concord Rod and Gun Club and was an enthusiastic Red Sox fan.

Survivors include his daughter, Paula Gray and her husband Eric of Westford, 2 sons, David and his wife Carol of Florham Park, New Jersey, Mark and his wife Linda of Alna, Maine. 3 grandchildren, Elizabeth Thornton, Lauren Thornton and Kylie Gray. He was also the brother of the late Michael Thornton.

Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Friday in recognition of Mr. Thornton's service to his country in the U.S. Navy.

Burial in the family burial plot in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord at a later date.
