OBITUARY- Robert J. Macone

Robert J. Macone, 94, of Concord died Sunday April 20, 2014 in Concord. He was the beloved husband of 60 years of the late Doris (Thayer) Macone.

Born in Concord on January 23, 1920 he was the son of the late Nicholas and Margaret (Foley) Macone. He attended Concord schools, graduated from Concord High School in 1938, and later attended Boston University.

During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a First Lieutenant in the Pacific theatre of operations.

Mr.… Macone retired in 1972 after many years of employment as an Air Traffic Controller at Logan Airport in Boston and later at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford.

He resided in Concord until 1972, when he became a resident of Hyannis. He lived in Hyannis for 32 years until returning to Concord in 2006. For many years he was a winter resident of Winter Park, Florida.

He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, (AOPA) and was a former member of the Musketaquid Sportsman's Club in Concord.

An accomplished musician, he enjoyed playing saxophone and clarinet and played regularly with several bands in the area.

Throughout the years, he traveled to different parts of the country to attend reunions of his Army Air Corps unit.

He is survived by his three children, Robert S. Macone and his wife Ann of Natick, Janet C. Harrington and her husband Paul of Sandwich, and Paul K. Macone and his wife Donna of Concord, his seven grandchildren, Benjamin , Jonathan and Joanna Macone, Christine and Katherine Harrington and Adam and Jaime Macone, and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Cameron. He was the brother of the late Ralph, Anna, Nicholas, his twin Richard, Joseph and Frederick Macone.

Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Friday April 25th in recognition of Mr. Macone's service to his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
