OBITUARY-CHARLOTTE B. MAGURN

Charlotte Ellen Magurn (Cain) passed away peacefully August 2, 2013 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA. She was born May 22, 1928 in Wayland MA to Mary E. Cain and Edgar M. Cain and was married for 62 years to Francis B. Magurn of Concord.

Before starting a family, Charlotte and Fran filled 8 years with camping, fishing, skiing and flying in Fran’s small plane. Together, they loved the adventure of travel without an itinerary.

They had 4 children, Francis, Ellen, Janet and Walter. Charlotte spent many busy years volunteering for Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Youth Hockey. She worked a variety of jobs her favorite being as bus driver for a local bus service, where she was a favorite among the public school children. As Charlotte’s own children moved on, she continued to give back, becoming involved in the Intergeneration Program for the Concord schools. What started as a one-year weekly commitment grew to more than 10 years of service and countless friendships with young children and their teachers.

Charlotte was delighted when her family expanded to include daughters and sons-in-law. She had natural generosity of spirit, making others feel truly welcomed into her family. The arrival of grandchildren unleashed the gold standard of grandparenting, and days were counted down between visits with her littlest loved ones.

After Fran’s death in 2012, Charlotte moved to Carlton Willard in Bedford and thrived in her new home. She explored new interests, painting and poker, and renewed her love of gardening and poetry. Adored by staff and fellow residents, she made close friends was kind and caring to all who knew her.

Charlotte was predeceased by her husband Francis B. Magurn, and her siblings, Ronald Cain, Irma Hill, John Cain, Peter Cain and Justin (Bud) Cain. She is survived by her son Francis Magurn, his wife Joni and their children Francis, Katherine and Brian of Littleton, MA; by her daughter Ellen Magurn, her
husband Hal Mayforth, and their children Nicholas, Francis and Charles Mayforth of Montpelier, VT; by her daughter Janet Magurn, her husband Mitchell Beard and their daughter Nora of Concord, MA; by her son Walter and his wife Catherine of Chelmsford, MA; and and her three brothers, Leo Cain of Cape Neddick, Maine, Theodore Cain of Potomac, Maryland and Robert Cain of Hudson, many nieces and nephews she held dear to her heart.
