Concord Teen Continues to Lead Fight Against Childhood Obesity

Chloe Rosen is one of 21 youth picked for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation's Youth Advisory Board.

At the ripe old age of 18, Chloe Rosen and her cooking have been making headlines for more than six years already.

The 11-year-old the Globe described as “Truly a Gifted Cook” has grown into an inspiring teen on the front lines of the fight against child hood obesity. For the second year, Rosen, a Concord resident, has been selected to serve on the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Youth Advisory Board.

Rosen, who has produced and appeared in online cooking videos for the past few years, was selected for the board based on her “passion to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic by inspiring her peers, schools, and communities to live healthier lives,” according to a press release.

“Adults can sit around the table all day and talk about ways to reverse the obesity epidemic in childhood, but unless we have authentic youth perspective in the conversations we aren’t going to get very far,” Dr. Howell Wechsler, the alliance’s CEO, said in a press release. “Our Youth Advisory Board members play a critical role in fighting this epidemic—raising their voices and inspiring their communities to take action.”

Rosen is a senior at Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, according to the press release, who runs cross-country and coxes for the school’s varsity crew team. She’s also a blogger, who has been featured on How2Heroes—you can watch Chloe make lemon chia seed muffins here—and Kiwi Magazine, where she her “Double Trouble Trifle Tower” won first price in a nationwide cooking contest.

"Eating well, even when the changes are small, makes you feel so much better," Rosen said in the press release announcing her second turn on the alliance’s Youth Advisory Board. "No matter what you spend your days doing, eating bright, colorful, fresh meals and exercising will have you more energetic and more ready to go than ever. I hope to try and make a difference not only in my own community, but in my state, and to get other kids as excited about healthy living as I am."
