Community Corner

32nd Annual CROP Walk for the Hungry

The Walk steps off at 2:15pm from First Parish in Concord, 20 Lexington Road, Concord and follows a beautiful 7 km route that passes through the National Park and across the North Bridge. The CCHS Pep Band will play from 1:30 to 2:00PM in front of the church and the Yankee Stompers Dixieland Jazz Band will play in the parish hall at the finish of the Walk. All walkers who get 20 sponsors or more receive a free T-shirt with art designed by the winner of the youth art contest. Other events include the T-Shirt Design and Banner contests.

Locally, CROP Walk supports Acton Community Supper and Food Pantry, Mt. Calvary Community Supper, Bedford Community Table/Pantry, Open Table Concord, Open Table Maynard, Maynard Food Pantry, Sudbury Community Food Pantry, Gaining Ground, Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, and Townsend Ecumenical Outreach.  Nationally, CROP Walk funds provide blankets and hygiene kits for domestic disaster response when tornados, hurricanes and flooding happen, as occurred in Louisiana this year; as well as providing training for long term recovery. Globally, funds go to Church World Service for fighting the root causes of hunger through community development programs in 80 underdeveloped countries.
