1. Lexington Community Education Presents: The Behavior of Wings: A Staged Reading by Steve Bogart
Where/When: Lexington Depot, 13 Depot Sq, Lexington; 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19
Why Go: Steve Bogart, playwright, stage director, teacher, visual artist and former drama teacher at Lexington High School will present a staged reading of his new work, The Behavior of Wings, a coming-of-age story about an 18 year old woman who drops out of her freshman year of college and travels to Mexico's Michoacan mountain forest to reunite with the father she hasn't seen in 10 years.

2. Discover West Concord
Where/When: 50 Beharrell St, Concord; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20
Why Go: It's a special day to come and explore "the SoHo of Concord," from Commonwealth Avenue to off the beaten path on Beharrell Street and Bradford Street.

3. Miller Award for Excellence in American History Presentation
Where/When: Concord Free Public Library, 129 Main St, Concord; 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20
Why Go: Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Eric Foner, professor at Columbia University, will speak and receive the prestigious Ruth Ratner Miller Award for Excellence in American History. His latest book, "The Fiery Trial," is about Abraham Lincoln, and garnered him the Pulitzer. It's a benefit for the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library.

4. Concord Orchestra: "Mahler's Farewell"
Where/When: Concord Orchestra, 51 Walden St, Concord; 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20
Why Go: The Concord Orchestra, conducted by Richard Pittman, opens its season with a single work, Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 9 in D Major.  This final work of Mahler was described by Leonard Bernstein as “a series of farewells” and by Alban Berg as “the most marvelous thing that Mahler ever wrote.”

5. Harrington Fall Festival for the Arts
Where/When: Harrington Elementary School, 328 Lowell St, Lexington; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, Sunday, Oct. 21
Why Go: Lexington’s Harrington School PTA will host its annual Festival for the Arts, showcasing an arts and craft market featuring local artisans, live entertainment and creative art “studios” where children can create their own masterpieces.
