Winter Photo Opps

Get out those cameras and win a $100 savings bond.

Hello and welcome to St. Fred Day. Back on this day in 1970-something, I mean 60-something, OK, let’s be real, 50-something, Fred Abbott was born. What a wonderful day that was, so I’m told, as I was not around. Neither was his lovely wife Linda Ziffrin, who came around a few years and four days later. How fun to celebrate your birthday with your soul mate. Happy Birthday to you both!

On the subject of birthdays, I was heading into the yesterday to mail off my nephew/godson’s birthday gift (I hope it gets there on time!) when I came across the announcement for the second annual “Winter in Concord” photo contest. I know we haven't had the most photographic winter on record, but that's no reason to not try to win one of the categories of this local contest, which is sponsored by the U.S. Post Office in Concord and of 111 Thoreau St.

Here are the rules. Any one of us may enter up to three photos of Concord during this winter. Two winners will be chosen from all entries in both the adult and child categories (16 and under). The winner in each of the age categories will receive a $100 savings bond as well as having their photo (8-inch by 10-inch preferred) custom framed by Frame-ables of Concord. The photo will be displayed in the lobby of the Concord Post Office for the year.

So get that aim-and shoot and fancy wide-angle lenses ready. Our town offers so many oppotunities to win a photo contest! As proof, accompanying this piece is a photo of one of the winning photos of last year's contest. That's 'Friend in Winter,' by Maggie Fisher.

You may pick up an order form at either the Concord Post Office at 34 Walden St or West Concord Post Office at 35 Beharrell St. For more information contact Paul Bolas at the Concord Post Office at 978-369-7613.
