Blueberries Abound at Verrill Farm This Weekend

Enjoy blueberry pancakes or chow down on a pie this Saturday, July 20. Plus more of the goings on this month at Verrill Farm in Concord.

A few opportunities for dining al fresco are coming up this month at Concord’s Verrill Farm.

Up first is the farm’s annual Blueberry Pancake Breakfast and Pie-Eating Contest this weekend. Then come the farm tour/cooing demo on Saturday, July 27 and the Field to Fork Crop Dinner on Tuesday, July 30.

The Blueberry Pancake Breakfast begins at 9 a.m. this Saturday, July 20. Pancakes are cooked up on griddles outside of the farmstand and served with Massachusetts maple syrup, bacon/sausage, and juice and milk or coffee. The Yankee Stompers will serve up a side of live music.

Breakfast is served from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and costs $7.50 per person, $4.50 for children younger than 10.

The contest begins before breakfast ends. Folks can enter one of two categories—kids and adults—as soon as they arrive for breakfast. There is no fee to enter. 

Rules? Bring your appetite and no hands allowed. The first to finish the pie is declared the winner. The contest will be held at 11 a.m.

Other July Events

-- Farmer Steve Verrill will lead a free farm tour at 9 a.m. next Saturday, July 27. The tour will be followed by a cooking demo featuring just-picked produce.

-- Another real treat is slated for Tuesday, July 30. At 6 p.m., Verrill Farm chefs will prepare a buffet dinner inspired by just-picked crops and served outside under the tents. It’s dubbed “From Field to Fork – A Summer Crop Dinner,” and reservations are required. Dinner costs $40 per person and reservations can be made by calling 978-369-4494.
