Gelato Bar Coming Soon to an Italian Market Near You

You'll be able to find the sweet treat at Farfalle in Concord.

I scream. You scream. We all scream for … Gelato?

That’s the idea at Farfalle Italian Market in Concord, where they’ll debut a gelato bar this Thursday, Aug. 8.

A six-well freezer was installed earlier this week at the specialty shop at Concord Crossing, and customers will soon find those wells filled with gelatos and sorbetto’s from Bindi, an Italian dessert company.

With gourmet ice cream and DIY yogurt joints exploding around the region, the folks at Farfalle, which already sells gelato and sorbetto retail, jumped at the chance to install a gelato bar when Bindi brought up the idea.

“With our Italian theme, we wanted to bring in something to differentiate ourselves,” said Gina Nasson, who runs Farfalle with her husband Jeff Nedeau. “It was kind of a no-brainer.”

Starting tomorrow, Farfalle customers will be able to order 6- or 10-oz gelatos and sorbettos, and will have the option of getting a scoop with the cakes and desserts already available.

The flavors will rotate weekly, with staples like vanilla and chocolate holding the fort alongside seasonal options. Nasson expects to offer four flavors of gelato and two sorbettos at a time.

“It’s really going to vie this place a more Italian feel than it already has,” said Nasson.

For its big debut, the gelato bar will be filled with vanilla, chocolate, salt caramel and gianduia (a chocolate hazelnut) gelatos, while blood orange and lemon will be the sorbetto options.

Bindi’s artisanal-style gelatos are made with milk, contain 7 to 9 percent butterfat and contain no preservatives. The sorbettos—made from fruit purees, sugar and water—are gluten- and dairy-free, according to Nasson.

“It’s a really high-quality product,” she said.
