At the Annual Meeting of the Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives, Kevin Whitney, RN, MA, NEA-BC, became the President-Elect of the Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives (MONE).
Whitney has been a member of MONE since 2002 and has served on the board as the Metro-West Regional Representative and as Secretary and chair of the By-laws Committee.
He is the Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Emerson Hospital in Concord. Kevin will succeed President Elaine Bridge for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
As President-Elect, Whitney's top priority will be to oversee the implementation of MONE's new three-year strategic plan.
"Kevin is energetic, insightful, and passionate about ensuring quality patient outcomes are achieved and that Massachusetts has a competent and sufficient nursing work force," said Sharon Gale, Executive Director of MONE. "His commitment and contributions have been significant."
As the voice of nursing leaders in Massachusetts, MONE's top priorities will be to develop the future care environment for the best quality and safety outcomes for patients and families, to influence public policy development in health care, and to ensure an adequate supply of competent nurses and nursing faculty to avert the projected nursing shortage.
"It will be an honor to serve as President for such an incredible and valuable nursing leadership organization; one that focuses on quality & patient safety, improving the work environment for direct-care nurses, and one that bases practice on evidence and nursing research," said Whitney. "As President, I will look forward to furthering the great work of my predecessors, the entire board, and membership to assist in achieving the key strategic priorities for the organization."
Whitney earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a Master's degree in Health Care Administration from Framingham State College. He is a Board-certified Nurse Executive by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
MONE members employ, manage, and influence nurses and health care workers in various practice settings throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Additionally, they administer operating budgets of more than $3 billion annually. MONE's mission, as the voice of nursing leaders in Massachusetts, is to safeguard patient care, advance professional nursing and the practice environment, and to develop and support current and aspiring nurse leaders.
