Friday Night Flick; Last Call for 'Amateurs'

Two places to get a facial in town, plus another Friday Night Flick and last call for Amateurs.

Here we are, at the almost-end-of-February – it’s a short month, after all. I hope those of you with kids at home are surviving the week, maybe taking the time to read a little more, relax at home and not run around to all the activities we seem to have during a normal school/work week. Or maybe you’re frantically trying to keep the kids busy while you figure out how to fit in your own work around them.

Either way, you may need a break yourself. And I’m thinking the best way to do that is to get yourself a facial. Really, by this time of the winter, our skin is dried out and looking a little rough; there’s nothing like a facial to get rid of the dead skin and make you feel all relaxed and renewed.

I have to confess, unlike my recent hot chocolate venture, I haven’t had a chance to try the different places that offer facials. Alas, there’s just no budget for that kind of indulgence. But I can at least tell you where to find this little slice of pampering, and you can try them yourself and report back.

Basically, I found two places here in town that offer facials. The first is The Mane Escape, over at 37 Thoreau Street. This is a full-service salon, offering hair cuts and color, body treatments, and mani-pedis. It’s pretty conveniently located, with parking both on the street and behind the building. Their “signature facial” is $92 for 60 minutes, but they have a variety of facials depending on your skin care needs. Plus check out their home page: they have a $20 off coupon at the bottom, making that facial even more enticing.

The other place I found is 1 on 1 Self Indulgence, which is tucked back behind the Post Office in West Concord, at 50 Beharrell Street. The warehouse it’s in may not look like much, but once you walk inside, you will feel like you’ve found a little oasis of calm. They offer a wide variety of spa services, from everyday to exotic, as well as a private fitness studio with personal trainers, in case you want to tone up before getting that facial. Their signature facial is $125, but they do offer two other facials for less, and the soothing sounds of flowing water and twittering birds make it all the more relaxing.

If you do check out either of these, leave a comment and let us know how you liked it.

Movie Night

Now that your skin is glowing, you might want to take it out and show it off. Lucky for you there’s another Friday Night flick at the Fowler tomorrow night, Le Quattro Volte – it’s Italian. The description says: “The title comes from the Pythagorean theory that we have four lives: vegetable, mineral, animal and human. Hearing sounds but no dialogue, we watch an old shepherd in a medieval village in the hills of Calabria, as he takes this journey through the four forms.”

The film starts at 7 p.m., and as usual, you need to get there early because it’s free and seating is limited.

Last chance for Amateurs

This is the last weekend that Amateurs will be playing over at 51 Walden, so get your tickets and go! Shows start at 8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, tickets are $19, and you can get 20% off your food bill at Serafina if you provide proof of purchase for that night’s show. Sweet!
