About Town: Queen of Hearts; Political Appointments

Love is in the bear.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. Don’t you just love this bear?

Also a very happy birthday to Amy Gagne, a total sweetheart who was born on Valentine’s Day. Amy, Gloria Pinkham and I celebrated over a sinful slice of red velvet cake from Main Street Market & Cafe.

Queen of Hearts

Diid you know that Anita Tekle, our very own Town Clerk, officiated a marriage and four vow renewals this past Saturday? That’s right. For the second year in a row, Anita, who is also a Justice of the Peace, participated in the Colonial Inn’s Valentine’s Day Special of free wedding ceremonies on Feb. 11.

The Inn donated $50 for each set of vows to a local charity of the couple’s choice, Gaining Ground, or Minuteman Arc. Anita said she officiated the marriage of “a nice young couple” from Somerville. While the newlyweds and their parents enjoyed dinner at the Inn following the ceremony, Anita renewed vows for three couples. A fourth couple, who was celebrating Valentine’s Day with dinner at the Inn, wondered what all the fuss was about.

“The couple was just having dinner, and when they saw what was going on, they said, ‘Let’s do it!’” said Anita, who has been happily married to Hagos (quite the catch!) for more than 35 years. “It was great fun. It was really very sweet. and the Inn really made a very nice to-do of it.”

Political Appointments

Anita, back wearing her Town Clerk hat, is seeking registered Concord voters to help work the polls on Super Tuesday, March 6. The shifts are 6 a.m., to 1 p.m., and 1 p.m., to closing. If you are interested, let Anita know by this Friday, Feb. 17, at 978-318-3080 or atekle@concordma.gov. Serious applicants must attend a training session next week, Feb. 28 at 141 Keyes Road. One training session runs from 10 a.m ., to noon and the other from 2 p.m., to 4 p.m. And, it gets better, you get paid, $9 an hour just for being patriotic!

Gluten Free

I’ll close and end with Main Streets Market and Cafe. Did you know that one of my favorite local eateries is adding a gluten-free area to its already fine restaurant? I know, we really need guilt-free, but until that happens, we’ll take the gluten-free. More on this good news as it evolves.

‘til Tuesday..
