Five Things: Stories, Cell Phones, Meetings and More

A quick look at what you need to see, do and know on Jan. 8 in Concord.

1. Story Time with Puppets: At 10:30 a.m. today at Barefoot Books, you can find a spot on the storyteller throne, pick out your child's favorite Folkmanis puppet (or try a new one on for style!) and let the tales begin at "Puppet Storytime."

2. Today in Public Meetings: According to the town website, public meetings posted for today include the Conservation Coffee at 7:30 a.m., the Council on Aging at 5:30 p.m., the Concord School Committee at 6 p.m., the Planning Board at 7 p.m., the Library Committee at 7 p.m. and the Comprehensive Sustainable Energy Committee at 7:30 p.m.

3. Cell Phones for Soldiers Collection Drive: Through Jan. 31, the Holy Family Parish Youth Ministry and the non-profit Cell Phones for Soldiers are asking Concord residents to help troops call home by donating gently-used cellular phones. Residents can donate their phones at the specially marked boxes at the entrances to Holy Family Parish Church in Monument Square or at the Holy Family Parish Offices at 55 Church Street in West Concord.

4. Do You Get Daily, Weekly and Breaking News in Your Inbox? If the answer to that question was "No," then you're missing out and need to click here to sign up for the Patch Newsletter.

5. A Little Bit Warmer Now: Should be mostly sunny with a high of 43 today, according to the National Weather Service, which predicts a clear evening with a low of 24.

SkiButternut.com Window Lift Ticket Prices are a Rip off Last Sunday took the family to Skibutternut in Great Barrington. Paid $240.00 - ticket window price: $60/ea for 4 tickets. Learned that afternoon, most skiers paid; $30 - $40 for the same Sunday ticket Big 32% Difference. Here's how the Skibutternut, com scam works. Ski Butternut inflates retail window ticket price. It’s a tricky Marketing Scheme – plain & simple! I learned they’re many groups you can join for FREE And easily get a $40 ski butternut weekend ski ticket. (32% discount). Wait there’s more… There are many gas stations on route to Ski Butternut giving away (with $10 gas purchase) Free (BOGO) Buy One - Get One Vouchers (50% discount) $30 ticket. Paying Ski Butternut’s Window Price is a “Terrible Family Rip-off”! == Butternut IS NOT A Family Friendly Mountain == SkiButternut.com Tickets are really worth $25 - $35. Butternut is a cute hill not a real ski mountain. If you Pay Butternut's Full Window Price, you got Ripped Off. Skibutternut's Marketing Manager, Matt Sawyer defended his inflated weekend rates, claims “we give great value”. I dispute this, and compared Matt Sawyer’s claim to: A Belleayre Ski Ticket - only $47 from liftopia.com Click Here: http://tinyurl.com/b46xg3b $60 vs $47 Belleayre offers 22% more family value. My Review on Skibutternut.com in Great Barrington, Ma Thumbs Down No Family Value Here!
