A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 6 p.m. tonight through 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Yesterday's Winter Storm Watch issued by the National Weather Service has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning, effective at 6 p.m. today.

"A major winter storm will bring damaging heavy, wet snow to interior Southern New England late today and tonight," the advisory reads. The Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect until 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Snow will fall the heaviest late tonight, with accumulation of 1 to 2 inches per hour. A total of 4 to 8 inches is expected.

"Heavy snow will result in tree damage and scattered power outages," the NWS advisory states. "The damage could be quite extensive with the potential for an area of widespread power outages. Untreated roadways will become snow covered and slippery."
