Cello Recital & Choral Evensong at Trinity Episcopal Church

Evelyn Farny Wadkins presents a solo cello recital on Sunday, March 2, as a prelude to the monthly Choral Evensong at Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street in Concord. The prelude recital begins at 5 PM in Trinity's main sanctuary. Ms. Wadkins will play J.S. Bach's "Suite No. 1 in G Major;" Alexandra Gardner's 2009 composition "Bloom" for cello and boombox, and Caroline Shaw's "In manus tuas" (Into your hands).

For the Choral Evensong, the Parish Choir under the direction of Robert Barney will sing Charles Villiers Stanford's "Magnificat" and "Nunc dimittis" in G Major, featuring soloists Kisha and Kuk James. The choir will also sing the anthem "Beautiful Saviour" set by F. Melius Christiansen (1871-1955), director of the St Olav Choir (MN) from 1912-1944.

There will be hymns for the congregation to sing. The Rev. Tony F. Buquor, Trinity's rector, is the officiant.

The service of Choral Evensong originated in 1549 with the first Book of  Common Prayer for the Anglican Church. Composers have written settings of this liturgy and Anglican choirs throughout the world sing it regularly in cathedrals, churches and chapels. To some this service feels like a concert and others are drawn into the spiritual realm by the transcendent music. All are welcome to experience it in their own way. Trinity offers this service several times throughout the year.

Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 81 Elm Street in Concord. For further information on this or other Trinity events, please call Trinity's Parish Office, 978/369-3715 or visit on line at  http://www.trinityconcord.org. Trinity is fully handicap-accessible.
