Close to Home: New England's Changing Landscape, Oil Paintings by Susanne Meterko

One of the many pleasures of living in New England is its change of seasons. In this show, Susanne Meterko shares her love of this natural cycle with chosen vignettes from each season. Primarily inspired by the local landscape around her Acton, Massachusetts home, Meterko illustrates the New England scenes we encounter every day, but may sometimes overlook.

“I am often stopped by scenes like the fleeting morning steam rising from a clear pond, or the individually illuminated leaf among many in shadow,” Meterko says. “If I’m not being attentive, it’s easy to miss such treasures.”

While many of her paintings are faithful depictions of each season’s detail, some have a more expressionistic touch that allow the viewer to take in the overall essence, or feel, of the specific landscape. “I hope to remind the viewer of a time and place where they, too, may have experienced the simple elegance of nature close to home.”
