Community Hosts Fundraiser for Ayer Resident Stricken With Early Onset Alzheimer’s

Ayer, MA – On Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM there will be a fundraiser at the Bull Run Restaurant at 215 Great Road in Shirley, MA to benefit Mike Bennett, a 55 year old resident of Ayer who developed early onset Alzheimer’s in his late 40s. The event will include food and live entertainment by the Yard Sale Rejects (Mike’s former band) and The Comedy and Magic of Eddie Raymond.Tickets are $20.00 and all money raised will go directly to pay for Mike's medical care.

Mike Bennett is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

Eight years ago, Mike had had a successful job as a human resources executive. He played in a band, loved to hike and was looking forward to a lifetime of happiness with his fiancé. But soon things went very wrong. He started losing his words, his memory and soon the ability to perform his job. After several doctor’s appointments, they confirmed his worst fears. Mike had early onset Alzheimer’s.

Today Mike resides at The Atrium at Drum Hill in Chelmsford, MA (a facility which specializes in dementia) where he is getting the care he needs. On occasion, he still remembers his family and friends when they visit.

He has lost most of his ability to speak, and needs a lot of help with everyday tasks. Although, Mike is getting the care he needs, it is very expensive and is not covered by insurance.  His life savings have been depleted. In order to continue to get care, Mike needs your help.
