Earthquake Hazards and the Environment: Megaquakes and More

On Wednesday, November 14th, at 7 p.m., research seismologist Dr. Alan Kafka will discuss how earthquakes interact with the environment to create hazardous situations that all too often result in tragedy. The occurrence of earthquakes is (for the most part?) outside of human control. But there are things we can do to mitigate their effects, and hopefully make ourselves less vulnerable to their powerful effects.

The seismograph and related programs are presented in cooperation with the Boston College Educational Seismology Project, and supported by the Susan Zielinski Natural Science Fund, Gleason Public Library Endowment, and Friends of the Gleason Public Library. Stop by the Library any time to see the seismograph and its real-time earthquake data.  To learn more about library programs, visit www.gleasonlibrary.org.
