Italian Wine Tasting

Along the charming coast of the Alta Maremma, to the south-west of Florence and about 100 km from the city, in the small and prestigious DOC Bolgheri area lies Tenuta Argentiera, which is part of the old Estate of Donoratico that once belonged to the Florentine Serristori family.

In Etruscan times, the plateau of the Tenuta was rich in canals, natural springs and silver mines, from which the estate’s present name derives, which made the area an important mining and agricultural centre.

The Tenuta is now owned by the brothers Corrado and Marcello Fratini.

On Friday, 4/18 from 4-7 PM you can taste the wines of Argentiera for free at West Concord Wine and Spirits.  The line-up will include..

Poggio ai Ginepri
Tasting Notes Intense and deep ruby color with purple reflexes. The nose is quite fresh and it does not represent the vintage with its fragrance of white flower, a prelude to fresh cherry and blackberry. The palate is sweet and has a well-balanced structure; the tannins are present, but in harmony with the wine freshness. The ending is slightly grassy and tends to delicate spicy notes.

Villa Donoratico
Tasting Notes Deep and bright ruby red color. On the nose impressive and pleasant hints of red berries like redcurrant, raspberries and cherries. Some sweet hints are coming up, which are reminding exotic perfume going then over to spicy and balsamic hints like liquorice and eucalyptus. The elegant palate offers silky and well-structured tannins, showing the aromas discovered already on the nose and with a very pleasant fruity ending. The aftertaste is long and persistent with intense aromas and fresh and mineral character.

Argentiera DOC
Tasting Notes Intense and luminous shades of dark ruby red color. Very complex on the nose with fresh hints of red berries like cherries, plum and cassis going over to wooden berries. Beside this we have intense and spicy balsamic notes as eucalyptus and graphite, finishing with some well integrated roasted hints. On the palate we discover the same aromas, which are perfectly balanced giving deep and velvet sensations. The mineral taste impresses because of the freshness, which offers character to the wine and a long persistent, pleasant and elegant aftertaste. The wine shows harmonic but intriguing, because of the sapid and mineral aftertaste; well balanced between fineness, tannic structure and the lingering finish.
