Sarasa Ensemble & mezzo Krista River, Nov. 17 in Concord

The Sarasa Chamber Music Ensemble begins its 2013-2014 Concord series on Sunday, November 17, 2013  with a concert featuring Boston based mezzo- soprano Krista River who has been described by The Boston Phoenix as “…earthy and intense, … her voice held an astonishing range of colors.”  The concert takes place at 7 PM at First Parish in Concord, 20 Lexington Rd, Concord, MA; ample parking is available.  Tickets priced at  $24  general admission / $20 senior / $12 student (FREE  Children) may be purchased in advance  online at http://www.sarasamusic.org/tickets/ or at the door.  For further information or to order a series subscription, please call 617/429-0332.

The program opens with four vocal pieces by different composers that represent various stages of the life of the Virgin Mary.  The concert concludes with the whimsical Handel Cantata  “Un’ alma innamorata” that bemoans the pain of jealousy and possessiveness while celebrating a more free spirited love.

This beautiful vocal music will be interspersed with one of J.S. Bach’s greatest violin sonatas in c minor, BWV 1017; Domenico Gabrielli's elegant Cello sonata in G major and the charming Purcell Suite in G minor for solo harpsichord.  Also not to be missed on this program is a new work by Howard Frazin specially composed for Sarasa called  “The Crucifixion” for mezzo-soprano, violin, cello and harpsichord.
