Support the Cause without Polar Bear Plunging

Local GoFundMe campaign supports March of Dimes.

On New Year’s Day, scores of area residents shocked away their hangovers by hopping into Boston Harbor for a good cause.

For one local family, the Dyers, participating in the L Street Brownies Polar Plunge was deeply personal this year, as their cold icy dip sought to support March of Dimes, an organization whose mission hits close to home after the premature birth of their son.

And so Dave Dyer set up GoFundMe campaign, seeking to raise funds for March of Dimes, which “researches the problems that threaten the health of babies” and seeks to help mothers-to-be have full-term pregnancies.

“Our son Caden Anderson Dyer was born prematurely on November 30, 2013. He was just 32 weeks old and weighed only 3lbs 1oz. While he has since progressed beautifully, many other premature babies have not been as fortunate,” Dyer wrote on his page. “We are asking for your support as we continue our annual tradition of plunging into the icy waters of Boston Harbor on New Years Day! …  For those daring souls, please join us. Otherwise, think about sponsoring us to take that plunge. Your support will make those New England frigid waters that much more bearable.”

The plunge has passed, but you can still lend your support by visiting Dyer’s GoFundMe page
