Comella's Coming Back to Concord

And the second course could be served as soon as this weekend.

The fast and family-friendly Italian eatery Comella's could re-open in Concord as soon as this weekend.

According to the latest report from Town Manager Chris Whelan, Concord's Health Inspector Gabrielle White conducted the pre-opening inspection for Comella’s new location, at 33 Main St.

Whelan's report notes Comella's "is expected to open for business next week." Word from Comella's Twitter account, meanwhile, says the opening could come as early as this Saturday, Dec. 14.

An email to the restaurant's general manager was not immediately returned on Tuesday afternoon. Comella's company website still lists its Concord location as "Coming Soon."

But the on Twitter, the @comellasfood handle has been teasing the Concord opening with regularity over the past week or so.

Comella's closed its 18-seat Walden Street location at the end of May, with plans will re-open after building out a new 33-seat restaurant at 33 Main St, the former home of Concord Hand Designs.

"We hope the locals will follow us to the new location, and we hope it will give us more exposure to tourists," Harry Donovan, manager of the Concord store, said at the time. "We're excited to have to opportunity for more seats and more space."

The many Messes and famous $5 cheese pizzas that helped Comella's quickly become a popular option among many Concordians are expected to remain as menu staples in the new location. Gluten-free pizzas, new toppings and craft beer on tap could join them there, as well, Donovan said this past spring.
