Ride the Battle Road Back in Time at Minute Man NHP's Fall Open House

From lessons in colonial housekeeping to a militia muster.

The following announcement was provided by Minute Man National Historical Park.

On Saturday, September 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Minute Man National Historical Park presents our popular fall open house, inviting you to many of the restored historic homes along the Battle Road.

Start your visit by picking up a park map and a program at Minute Man Visitor Center on Route 2A in Lexington or at North Bridge Visitor Center, 174 Liberty Street in Concord.

At the Jacob Whittemore House in Lexington, join us for Hat’s Off! A Tribute to Homespun Heroes. Activities for all ages include making your own colonial hat and being in a play to learn how spinning, cooking, cleaning, and shopping all helped to defend liberty. At historic Brooks Village in Lincoln, visit the Samuel Brooks House and see colonial dyeing and spinning. At Joshua Brooks House, learn about leatherworking with Park Ranger Roger Fuller. Meet the Friends of Minute Man at Noah Brooks Tavern and see Henry Cooke, 18th-century tailor and Roy Najecki, hat maker. At Job Brooks House, explore the park’s archaeology collection with Park Service curators.

At the Captain William Smith House, the Lincoln Minute Men will present music, foodways, clothing and a militia muster. At Hartwell Tavern, learn about America’s first soldiers and see a musket firing demonstration.  In Concord, visit the Nathan Meriam House and meet restoration specialists at the Colonel James Barrett House.
