Save the Date: 4th Annual Crucolo Cheese Parade Announced
The big cheese comes back to Concord on Thursday, Dec. 5. d
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, foodies of all ages, prepare to be amazed, enchanted and appetized by the impending arrival of a 400-pound wheel of Crucolo cheese.
The fourth annual Crucolo Day -- you know, when the largest wheel of formaggio Crucolo in North America parades into town -- has been set for Thursday, Dec. 5, according to an announcement from the Concord Cheese Shop.
This year, the big cheese will ride up Walden Street on a horse-drawn wagon, arriving at the Cheese Shop at 3:30 p.m., at which point business owner Peter Lovis will read a proclamation declaring it "Crucolo Day in the town of Concord."
A single-producer artisanal cheese made at the Rifugio Crucolo in Trentino, Italy, Crucolo is a cow’s milk cheese that’s a little on the soft side and starts mild but has an “interesting” finish with a little tang, Lovis explained last year.
Crucolo Day always attracts a crowd. A big slab of cheese will be cut up and sampled outside on the street, while inside the Cheese Shop the Crucolo retails for about $20 per pound. All 400 pounds will likely be sold out within the month.
