Students Learn to Give Back, and Other Good News from Alcott School

Turkey Trot fundraiser supports local anti-hunger organization Open Table ahead of the holidays.

The young students at Concord’s Alcott Elementary School learned a thing or two about giving back last week as the school held its annual “Turkey Trot” to benefit Open Table and other charities.

According to a press release, more than 445 Alcott students participated in the Turkey Trot, a 15-minute jog-a-thon held Oct. 29 at Emerson Field.

Initially a fourth-grade activity created to give frozen turkeys and grocery store gift certificates to local anti-hunger organization Open Table, the Alcott Turkey Trot has evolved into an all-school fundraiser benefitting Open Table and other charities, including the Concord Recreation scholarship fund.

The total pledges raised this year have not been tallied yet, but the Turkey Trot had raised more than $73,000 for local charities heading into this year.

The Turkey Trot came just days after the Alcott School’s Monster Mash, held Friday, Oct. 25.
