Atkins and Barrett add prison mitigation funds

In the new state budget passed by the legislature, Concord will be reimbursed for hosting two state correctional facilities, thanks to the efforts of State Rep. Cory Atkins and State Sen. Mike Barrett.

Originally, neither the House nor Senate budgets included funding to cover the costs towns incur for hosting prisons.  Atkins and Barrett then made sure the final budget included funding for such localities.

“We were recently able to reinstate money for this past year in a supplemental budget process,” Atkins said.  “Now this new funding protects Concord for the coming fiscal year.”

“Concord provides these facilities with local services, including police and fire,” said Barrett.  “Rep. Atkins and I heard from town officials about how important this funding is, and I’m glad we were able to come through.”
