American Red Cross

Effective yesterday, our government has shut down operating sites across the country, including several in our Northern New England Region, and the ramifications of that action are already being felt acutely here at the American Red Cross.  A planned blood drive at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard has been canceled and we anticipate others to come.  Unfortunately, the need for blood is constant and we must find immediate replacements for those life-giving blood donations lost.

I am reaching out to ask for your help in responding to this emergency situation.  The Red Cross must collect enough lifesaving blood each and every day to meet the needs of accident victims, cancer patients, surgical candidates, children with blood disorders and others.  Our family members, neighbors and friends in need of lifesaving transfusions cannot wait for this government shutdown to reach its conclusion, their need is immediate.
