Construction Crew Strikes a Gas Main on Bradford Street

The following information was provided by the Concord Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Thursday, Oct. 24

12:04 a.m. - Reports of a red Kia parked in the area of Bow and Lang Streets. Police discovered the vehicle is owned by a leasing company. Area was checked and no one was located.

2:26 a.m. - Reports of a disabled motor vehicle in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot, 1643 Sudbury Road. AAA contacted for a tow.

5:35 a.m. - Caller reporting construction vehicles and noise in the area of 140 Commonford Road. Vehicle dispatched and area cleared - noise was from loading equipment onto a truck and they were advised of the bylaw.

6:46 a.m. - Caller reports the traffic signal at the Fitchburg Turnpike and Sudbury Road changes from green to red without going to a yellow light. Traffic systems said it was possibly due to milling in the area and should reset itself after a few cycles. Will respond if needed. Police reported lights now working correctly.

7:18 a.m. -  Reports of a natural gas leak behind the fire station on Walden Street. National Grid called and responding.

7:22 a.m. - Caller reports reckless driver on Main Street inbound by the boat house. Caller reported vehicle was tailgating and he slowed down and vehicle went over median and pass him. Police were dispatched and unable to locate the vehicle.

8:07 a.m. - Police received a report from a caller to complain that a Grey Sedan passed a school bus on Main Street at Church Street while the bus was loading children and the emergency lights were activated. School transportation was contacted and confirmed with the bus driver that the vehicle did not stop. Police contacted the vehicle owner and advised the driver of the complaint.

1:02 p.m. - Reports of a motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of the Ripley School. No injuries were reported and there was minor damage.

2:30 p.m. - Caller reports she lost her wallet in or around Starbucks this morning. Nothing had been turned into police at time of call.

3:21 p.m. - Caller reports there is an SUV pulled over on Rte. 117 with the door pen and a teenage male inside and that it looks as if something is wrong. Vehicle was gone when police arrived.  

4:17 p.m. - Police received reports about an odor of gas outside 23-43 Bradford St. National Grid also notified and responding. A construction crew struck a gas main. The Fire Department requested shutting down Bradford Street, which was then closed. The main was struck a few feet from 43 Bradford Street. Officials metered the building to determine if they needed to evacuate. Building was then evacuated and the gas was shut off. Residents were eventually allowed back inside the building.

8:52 p.m. - Resident came into the station to turn in a Maryland ID found by the Fowler Library.
