Vehicle Struck by Train after Getting Stuck on Tracks Trying to Make U-Turn

The following information was provided by the Concord Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Oct. 21

1:12 a.m. - Police responded to an alarm at Rite Aid Pharmacy, 71 Lowell Road. Area was checked and building secure.

5 a.m. - Police responded to a residential alarm at an empty home currently under construction on Fairhaven Hill Road. House was checked, secure.

7:49 a.m. - Reports of a traffic complaint from a driver reporting he was being tailgated by a van on Cambridge Turnpike near Heywood Street. Driver stated the operator of the van appeared upset he would not go over the speed limit. Driver was told to go directly to the police station instead of stopping and units were advised of the vehicle involved.

9:26 a.m. - A traffic stop on Strawberry Road at Annursnac Hill Road found a driver to be operating with a revoked drivers license. Driver was issued a summons for operating with a revoked license and speeding.

12:27 p.m. - Reports of a 911 call reporting a tree down on the side of the road on Laws Brook Road near Crabtree Road. Police were dispatched and the tree department was notified. Tree branch was removed.

1:21 p.m. - Suspicious activity reported at 141 Caterina Heights. Caller reports a suspicious motor vehicle in the area, a gold sedan with two males sitting inside had been in the neighborhood for a while. Officers found it was a local student and teacher from Adaptive Driving School.

2:04 p.m. - Motor vehicle stop found vehicle registration had been revoked for insurance. Car was dispatched, as well as a tow truck. Driver was summonsed  

2;24 p.m. - Caller reports her dog was missing for 45 minutes. Dog is described as a black and tan mutt with a white face. Dog officer also notified.

2:36 p.m. - Reports of suspicious jeep parked on Hartwell Road. The vehicle belonged to people working at a house on Hartwell Road. No problems.

6:35 p.m. - Police received multiple 911 calls about a car having turned onto the railroad tracks at the intersection of Conant Street and the railroad crossing. The Grey Toyota Corolla accidentally turned onto the railroad tracks at Conant Street while trying to make a U-Turn as a train approached. The vehicle was stuck on the tracks and hit by the approaching train. Police reports say multiple calls were made to multiple numbers to alert the train engineer by calling the Waltham Tower, of the car stuck on the tracks. Dispatch was advised the phone lines at the tower were down just prior to the collision. No one was in the car when it was struck and no passengers on the train were injured. The car’s owner was issued a citation.

8:06 p.m. - Police received a call from a Lexington resident reporting a lost iPhone 4 somewhere at Walden Pond Reservation earlier in the day.

8:33 p.m. - Reports of suspicious activity, Colonial Inn, 48 Monument Square. Police reports a rental car with an open trunk in front of the Colonial Inn. The vehicle was unattended. Vehicle was secured, but the operator was not located.

8:52 p.m. - Reports of suspicious activity involving a Jeep Cherokee parked for extended periods near trail head off Simon Willard Road. Vehicle was confirmed to be registered to a resident of Simon Willard Road. Police spoke with driver who stops in area to smoke, no problems.
