Government Shutdown Has Huge Impact at Hanscom AFB

Dozens of services reduced or closed, hundreds furloughed due to partial shutdown.

Hanscom Air Force Base’s support organizations and civilian workers will be hugely impacted the partial government shutdown. 

As the base’s news service reported Tuesday, dozens of organizations, offices and programs will be closed or reduced during the shutdown period. Among those include:

  • The 66th Air Base Group’s civil engineering (except the Fire Department), response center and public affairs
  • The 66th Force Support Squadron’s youth programs, civilian personnel office and Hanscom Conference Center
  • The 66thh Medical Squadron’s health and wellness center and drug demand reduction center
  • All 66th Logistics Readiness Squadron services except fire apparatus maintenance

Additionally, the Hanscom's website is not being updated due to the government shut down, according to this post

Hanscom Air Force Base is located in the middle of the town's of Concord, Lexington, Lincoln and Bedford.

It's unclear at this point whether Hanscom's effects from the government shut down will impact those communities, according to officials in Concord and Lexington. 

Boston MedFlight is scheduled to celebrate its 2013 Pediatric Reunion at Hanscom Air Force Base this Sunday, Oct. 6, and a media contact for the event said it is expected to go on as scheduled.
