Government Wrap Up: What's New in Town Offices

A few promotions, and the biggest construction project ever.

Here we are, at the start of a new week. Take a look at some of the happenings that have been going on with various town departments and projects lately.

  • Jay Redmond was promoted to the position of Lieutenant, and has been assigned to Group 1, Engine 4 out of Station 2. Christopher Troiano was promoted recently as well. Troiano, who has 11 years of law enforcement experience, was made Sergeant.

  • Concord Light announced two more homes in town — one at Concord Riverwalk and the other on Thoreau Street — to have installed photovoltaic solar panels on their roofs. These two homes now join 13 others in taking advantage of Concord Light's photovoltaic rebate program. Click here for more information on the rebate.

  • Concord Light has also been researching the possibility of purchasing electricity from a hydroelectric power facility in Topsham. Owned by ArcLight Capital Partners, the facility produces about 20 megawatts. The cost of electricity from the facility would cost approximately 4.6-cents per kilowatt to begin with, and slowly increase to about 6-cents by 2017. ArcLight is looking for a 10-15 year term, though no binding agreement has yet been struck.

  • The largest construction project in Concord's history — Longview Meadow, also known as the Nathan Pratt Drive project, a 40-B development — is well underway in West Concord. All of the foundations for the 350-unit rental property have been poured, and a community building for the complex is nearly complete. Consisting of multiple three-floor structures, developers anticipate the completion of one apartment building approximtaley every five weeks.
