Pre-Furlough Schedules Restored at Hanscom AFB

The furloughs, which started mid-July, were a direct impact from the Federal Sequester that March 1.

Pre-furlough service schedules and the Hanscom Commissary are set to return to normal this week after senior leaders at the Air Force Base announced the restoration of Friday service.

Services originally impacted by the sequestration-prompted furlough schedule have been restored in concert with the Department of Defense’s reduction of furlough days from 11 to six, according to Hanscom Air Force Base’s news service.

The sequestration-related cuts primarily impacted Friday services. And this Friday, Aug. 23, marks the return to normal operations.

However, everything is not as it was prior to the Federal Sequestration. From the Hanscom News post:

There has been no change regarding controls on premium pay, overtime or compensatory time. In general, premium pay is not authorized unless it is part of an employee's normal pay, such as an employee who regularly earns a night differential. Therefore, most employees will continue to work not more than 32 hours per week during furlough or 40 hours per week after furlough requirements are met.

Base officials have lifted the temporary suspension of the compressed work schedule for those employees who have completed the required six days (48 hour) of furlough. For these employees, work schedules can be changed back to the compressed work schedule effective the pay period beginning Aug. 25. Individuals on flexible work schedules may again accumulate up to 24 credit hours, with supervisory approval, after furlough requirements are met and as approved by their supervisor.

According to prior reports, Hanscom employees impacted by the furlough included:
