Town Manager's Report: Fire Station Renovations, Senior Concerns, and Requests for Proposals

Highlights from Town Manager Christopher Whelan's weekly report.

The following information was provided in Town Manager Christopher Whelan's weekly report.

Renovations to the two are moving along. The first floor work in Station 1 is progressing, with the plastering work complete and painting beginning this week with trim work to follow. At Station 2, bids for the cupola went out in September, and the contract has been awarded to Laliberty Construction, with work beginning this week.

Fire Chief Mark Cotreau will also represent Concord at a Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency briefing this week to begin the application process for reimbursement for resources expended during Tropical Storm Irene.

A number of requests for proposals were issued by the town recently. Two came from the Planning Division — one for lighting consulting services, and one for a parking management plan. Both of those were issued yesterday.

Concord Public Works issued a request for proposals seeking engineering services to inspect all signs on public right of ways, in preparation of implementing a sign replacement program.

Members of the Health Department and Council on Aging have been meeting in order to identify and address ways the two entities may collaborate to enhance programs and services provided to seniors in town. So far, some of the biggest needs identified have been nursing services, and programs for disposal of household sharps and unused medications.

In West Concord, all 350 foundations for the Housing project have been poured. The community building, waste water treatment plant, and first apartment building have been completed and are ready for final inspection and occupancy. The developer of Longview expects full completion of the project by this time next year.

The 2011 water and sewer main replacement is continuing to make progress in the Hubbard, Union, Fielding and Willow Street neighborhoods. To date, temporary water bypass piping has been installed, and installation of individual service lines to various properties is slated to begin soon.
