Town Positions Up for Grabs in Spring Election

Town Clerk Anita Tekle talks Town Caucus and the nomination process.

 

The annual Town Caucus is set for Monday, Jan. 9, and is encouraging people considering a run for town office to come out and make it official.

"I'm urging people to come get nominated on the ninth," Tekle said.

On this year's ballot, is a one-year term as Town Moderator; two three-year terms on the ; two three-year terms on the ; and one five-year term on the .

Although there are no official candidates until after the Town Caucus, Tekel said incumbents Town Moderator Eric Van Loon and Selectmen Elise Woodward will be seeking re-election. Selectman Greg Howes and School Committee members Peter Fischelis and Jerry Wedge are not running for re-election.

According to Tekle, Phil Benincasa intends to run for a seat on the School Committee, and Paul Mahoney will be running for a seat on the Board of Selectmen.

Tekle said anyone considering a run who is unfamiliar with the Town Caucus may contact her at 978-318-3080 or townclerk@concordma.gov for guidance on the nomination process.

"A lot of people have never been to one, so I'd be happy to give people some insights on what they're like," Tekle said. "It's not as formal a proceeding as some of the other things we do in Concord."

Anyone wishing to run for office that is not nominated at the Town Caucus, may still get on the ballot by turning in the proper paperwork with the signatures of 50 registered voters to Tekle's office by Jan. 17.
