Superintendent Comments on Claims of Bullying in Concord

Superintendent of Schools Diana Rigby on Wednesday, Aug. 14, issued a statement regarding the $2 million civil rights lawsuit filed against the district.

The following message, from Concord Superintendent of Schools Diana Rigby, was distributed to all parents and employees through the Concord Public Schools and Concord-Carlisle Regional School District's "CONNECT ED" system late Wednesday afternoon, in response to a civil lawsuit brought by a former CCHS student suing the school over alleged bullying

Dear Parents and Colleagues,

I hope that you are enjoying your summer.   Many of our teachers and administrators are already working hard to ensure that the upcoming school year is a positive and successful educational experience for every student.

You may be aware that a civil lawsuit has been filed regarding CCHS. I want to assure you that student safety is our primary concern, and our teachers, administrators, and staff members remain vigilant in providing a safe and positive learning environment for all students. The districts' Bullying Prevention Policy and Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan are very clear: We do not tolerate any harassing or bullying behaviors, we promptly investigate all complaints and reports of such behaviors, and we take prompt actions to end unsafe behaviors to restore the targeted student's personal safety.

In addition to directing school personnel and resources to address complaints, we collaborate with the local Concord and Carlisle police and our school safety officer, Detective Scott Camilleri, to prevent, intervene, and respond to all incidents of harassment and bullying.

In spite of what you may read or hear, I can assure you that CCHS responded swiftly to each incident and complaint involving the student. The CCHS school administrators and the Concord and Carlisle Police Departments worked very closely with the student and her family to respond to each and every incident and they implemented a series of protective measures to address the student's safety and learning environment. Student safety remains our highest priority in both districts.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding your school's response to disruptive or unsafe behaviors, please contact your school principal.
I am proud of our wonderful students and our excellent teachers, administrators, and staff, and I look forward to a successful school year.

Sincerely,
Diana F. Rigby
Superintendent
